After massive coolant leak, terrible idle, then no start. still in trouble

Here is a follow up.
I have replaced the distributor cap with a new one, I have replaced the
fuel filter and checked all my vacuum lines and hoses.
The hoses and vacuum lines are all connected and are in great shape, as is
the whole engine bay.
I pulled all the spark plugs for inspection, and these looked very dirty and
covered in black soot.
I pulled the 91' 2CTQ along side and swapped the spark plugs.
I tried pulling codes with the led light method as described by Scott Mockry
but could not get it to work.
I can start the car now, and it sounds normal in the first 3 seconds but
then starts sputtering and surging badly.
I am be able to rev the RPM with some effort and footplay, but will develop
smoke from exhaust and it seems like it is not burning all the gas.
It almost seems like it is getting too much fuel.
I am still at a total loss. Could it be the fly wheel pin?
Anybody has suggestions or questions?
Thanks, Martin.
