(ashamed) when I bought my $60 '87 Audi 80 three years ago, it had a FRAM
filter. Also, service stickers seemed to indicate that it had received its
last service sometime in '95. I just topped up the oil (it used up a fair
amount, smoked nicely). The lifters were really quiet though and I decided
that I had enogh to do on my other cars. The Fram filter stayed in place
and it was still there when I drove it to the scrapyard with a dead
transmission (shoulda watched THAT oil level instead) earlier this year.
My 90q gets an oil change with the correct filter very often, though... as
does my '77 80LS. My '90 80 is about due for an oil change... as well as
for a new rocker cover gasket and fuel pump.
