my 90 made similar noises when the center supoprt bearing started to go.
eventually the niose was constant when the rubber surround finally tore all
the way around.

its easy to check if you look at it, rips in the rubber = bad. it causes a
knocking sound from right under the car. while youre there check the trans /
diff mounts, etc.
