Lightened Flywheel for NG

Well, after getting such a good deal on the clutch kit for my car I've been thinking (which is dangerous). In order to maintain the warranty on the clutch the flywheel needs to be machined/resurfaced. As long as it's off the car anyway, is there any good reason not to have it lightened? What are the downsides of a lightened flywheel? How much can safely be taken off? Any BTDT on the NG engine? Comments & suggestions?
