'95 A6 Headlight Washer Issue

A tow truck broke off the cap from my left headlight washer. Water added to
the reservoir just drains out. There seems to be a plastic shaft broken off
under the headlight.  Is the cap just a rectangular piece or is it attached
to the shaft?  Will replacing the cap solve my problem or do I have to
replace the whole headlight washer mechanism (or is there an intermediate
plastic piece that connects the cap with the washer mechanism?
