looking for BTDT - MC turbo oil supply line replacement

Hi Stephane,

I replaced the oil line studs and gaskets on the turbo when I did the turbo
swap on my 5ktq. I found suitable metric studs at our local Tacoma Screw
store. The new studs were a bit longer on the part the nut rides on, but an
exact fit as far as the rest of the stud. BTW, the nut/stud combo came out
of the turbo when I tried to undo the nut. You might skip the dremel and
just try turning on the nut.

I don't know if you need to remove the intake manifold, if that is what you
are referring to as "intake", as I had the turbo out of the car when I put
in the new studs. My sense is you'll need to do something for access. One
can barely get to the nuts to loosen the oil and water lines. I can't see
how you can get a tool on the studs.

Your two choices seem to be to remove the intake manifold, or pull out the
turbo. Neither looks like an easy task. I generally like to leave
manifolds alone if they aren't leaky, so I would likely opt for the pull the
turbo route if I had to do it again.

I did the usual pull the whole front end of the car off (bumper, grill, IC
and crossmember). This is the same thing I do for the timing belt (hint,
hint!) Getting the turbo off requires the downpipe to be loosened, which
requires the heat shields to be removed. The downpipe comes off the turbo
and the exhaust system easily once you get the wastegate connection loose.
Getting opposed wrenches on the three wastegate fasteners takes a bit of
manipulating from below, so it's nice to have the car up on stands.
