Hi,
I have now recognized that my seemingly intermittent, long
cranking (10 sec) followed by a stumbling, 250 rpm start with 1/2 throttle
opening (5 sec) followed by normal rpm and normal running and driving
really occurs only when the outside air temperature is above 75-78 F
(24-25 C).
My only fault code is 2142 (knock sensor). I have located the knock
sensor and checked wiring to be OK (Thanks to Tony Lum, luke, and Ti Kan) plus
it's hard to believe that I would get only starting problems from knock sensor
malfunction and why the temperature dependence?
Diagnostic ideas would be greatly appreciated. It sounds like the
engine is starved for fuel during the crank/stumbling phase. Sometimes
after seemingly clearing up and running fine it will also give a buck or
two while accelerating but this too happens only when it is hot outside
and the starting problem was present prior to normal running.
Once it is going OK the engine itself can be up to normal, mid dial
operating temperature and I can shut it off and it will restart in a flash
or even after waiting 20-30 minutes. Haven't found just how long it
has to sit on a hot day before the starting problem returns. Could this be
fuel pump or filter related???

Thanks for help,
Lou
