It sounds like you arent aware of the fact that there are *two*
different European light setups?

One is the European Audi 80, it used H4 lights that looks exactly like
your DOT lights.
The second is the dual lights found on the 90, Coupe and quattro models.
As you say, it doesnt have corner markers, but that can be dealt with.

So, as said, I have done that modification to my car. Not with the main
intent to have corner lights viewable from the side like in USA, but to
mimic the V8's parking lights, which are positioned in the corner of the
headlight (at least on the Euro models).

So, what I did was to get some corner parking lights frm some old
Japanese car. I believe it was from a Mitsubishi Tredia, but that doesnt
matter too much. With the glass lense of my headlight removed, I started
by removeing the chromed corner trim inside my light. With that piece
removed, I cut, trimmed, heated and made the Mitsu light fit inside the
corner of my headlight. I made it stay in place with some 3M double-side
tape (of the foam type).

The only modification I had to do to the headlight itself was to drill a
small hole to pass the wires for this new corner light, and the only
drawback is that in order to replace the bulb I have to pull the glass
lense from the headlight unit, and that the headlight has to be removed
from the car to do that.

I've uploaded a couple of pics of the finished result for you to see
what I'm talking about!
