Getting keys made

Hi,
I'm no expert, but I don't think a potential thief or owner has to go to an
Audi dealer. All she has to do is find a locksmith with the proper blanks,
which not many do. This can be done by phoning around and "testing" the
locksmiths to see how much documentation they require. Some require none,
at least not the last time I did it. But, of course, I wasn't stealing a
car at the time. I've had them let me in ugh American cars ugh with no
documentation; they were rental cars where the keys jumped out of my pocket
into the trunk as I was getting a bag out.
So, I think it is original and innovative for bright car thieves to do that.
However, I also am pretty sure that there is no need for parking enforcement
to see the VIN; all they need is the license plate number and vehicle
description. The registration people will want to check the VIN in more
places than on the dash, but that's to get a title or similar.
Someone already said this, but the best protection out in the open is to
lock your car with the windows rolled up. Thieves won't bother with a car
that's locked when there are plenty that are unlocked, some with keys. That
is, unless they become attracted to your stereo or some such; then they
break-in in a flash, rip out the stereo, and whoosh.
My .02C worth.
Cheers!
