Hi Obin,
Do the calcs yourself:
A 205/45/16 tire would have a outide diamter, OD, that is 41mm or 1.6"
less than that of a 205/55/16: (.55-.45)*205 = (20.5*2) = 41mm or 1.6".
The width, 205mm, will be the same with both.
If the tire hits the wheel well with the tread, you would gain 1.6" of
clearance. If the sidewalls rub, then you gain nothing unless the wheel
wheel is wider at 17.75" from the
center of the hub than it is at 18.25" from the hub.
If you drive in such a way that the wheels make wide excursions up and down
and sideways, these calcs are inconsequential.
