more stuff from "A History of Progress"
go and buy this book... its a VERY interesting read...
found a few more tidbits people might like to know :)

in 1914 there was a HORCH model known as the Phaeton

apparently audi had the first ever engine with an air filter!!!!
engines prior just sucked straight air in...

and get this...
audi had the first german left handed drive car!
this was in 1922 when 90% of german cars were right hand
drive, and by 1923 it was only about 75% :) talk about starting trends!

they used an all aluminum body shell in 1923 (not production)

excerpt: owners handbook 1924
"To own such a noble vehicle is to have one's good taste and
culture in some way legitimised - in the same sense as an
upper-class Englishman might regard membership of a select
club as evidence of his character as a gentleman. To posses
an AUDI automobile, therefore, is to respect the laws of
"noblesse oblige"...."

Wankel engine was invented by an employee of NSU which
later became part of the auto union then later became AUDI NSU AG before
AUDI AG.look for the NSU Wankel spider (first production wankel car and
a beautiful roadster at that.)

before the Audi TT there was the NSU TT (67-72)
and the NSU TTS (67-71) (prototype Audi TT was called Audi TTS)

btw the 1963 DKW F 12 roadster is one dope looking car!
and the 1964 Auto Union 1000 sp roadster is even nicer!

well maybe some more tidbits later :)
