Need info on A8 list - where?

I've got email from someone with a A6 V8 with transmission problems.
Seems there ought to be an A8 list somewhere and that car has the same
engine and auto transmission.

Can someone give me information to pass along on an A8 list?
Or even better, what's a good garage to repair the V8 autobox?
This person's transmission has a reverse gear that's become
inoperative.  The dealer told them they need a whole replacement
transmission, at $10,000, which sounds like nonsense to me.
