I didn't do it myself (I'm a terrible DIY mechanic, I cause more damage than I fix), I was just relaying what the shop said. I told them before the job that I had reason to believe that the cam timing might me off and/or the belt may be off by a tooth or two because of the pinging and to please do the job according to the Bently that I supplied them with.
