You are correct, sir, it's been a while since I've owned that one, I
thought it was one year newer than my 4kcsq I owned, but it might have been
a 86. It had the red leather and digi dash, it was graphite metallic. So
that would further confirm my claim that CS doesn't mean Commemorative
Edition (although CE might have meant that somewhere else) because my Coupe
wasn't labelled Coupe GT CS, but the 4kcsq was labelled 4000 CS, and the
one without the cs was the commemorative edition, and with one with it
wasn't. When I had my Commemorative Ed. Coupe I did as much research on it
as possible, and never came across the terminology Commemorative Series, it
was always Edition, and I did encounter reports of a 4 door version of the
Commemorative Ed.
Here's my basic point: I find it unlikely that Audi call every other
Commemorative Version, of any year, that I have ever seen the 'Edition'
and would call the 86 model the 'Series,' especially when the initials 'CS'
would cause confusion amongst the rest of the line (4ks, and 5ks both had
CS models for a couple of years that weren't Commemorative Editions.)
-I found this at http://www.arch.kth.se/~a98_don/gallery4.html :
Audi 4000 CS quattro "Commemorative Edition" 1986
Owner:Mike Jacyno, Indiana, USA.
Engine:2.2-litre, 5-cylinder engine. Effect 115 hp, torque 126 lb ft.
Transmission:5-speed manual gearbox, quattro all wheel drive, lockable
differentials centre and rear.
Wheels:BBS rims from a 90 quattro.
Equipment:Power windows/locks/mirrors/sunroof. Air condition. "quattro"
script rear window defrost. Upgraded Blaupunkt deck with Infinity speakers.
6 function trip computer (clock, avg mpg, avg speed, instantaneous fuel
mileage, total time driven, average fuel economy). Red leather seats front
and rear, with red inserts on side door panels. European license plate on
front.
Comments:The "Commemorative Edition" is a special edition of the 4000 sedan
and Coupé GT to commemorate the 100th year of the automobile. They offer
paint in only Alpine White or Graphite Metallic and have red leather
interior. Only 500 sedans and 750 Coupé GT's were made in 1986 with the
commemorative edition trim level.
