The inline 5 is back!

VW has had a VR5 engine for some years now. As I understand it, the V10 
TDI is actually two VR5 TDI engines joined at the crank, much like the 
W8 engine.

Since the VR series of engines has such a narrow "V", it is possible to 
have an odd number of cylinders and still be able to balance the engine 
much line a "normal" in line engine.
