drivetrain clunking

One possibility is that the splines at the end of the
drive shaft and inside the hub are worn. I recently
had this happen to a Sterling. The splines were worn
so badly that whenever you changed directions or
shifted gears, you got a clunk. It's a wonder that it
hadn't started spinning! Currently fixed with JB Weld,
but not planning on rallying the car.
