There is documentation on my site? Hmmm...
Basically, the 87.5 is exactly the same car as an 86 or 87, the only
differences being the 2.3 l engine and the rear disc brake axle - both
of which, at worst, are documented in any manual that handles the FWD
1988 90 model. Also see the note about tranny flanges below.
The digital dash was used before, so should be fully (!) documented in
the standard red 8(4) - 87 4k/4kq/coupe manual. I actually thought the
last versions of that manual covered the 2.3, etc., as well - but
perhaps it was done in arcane appendices rather than where you would
expect it? I'm not sure, since for some reason I don't have that manual
kicking around. Just photocopies of bits of it.
The engine management harness is different on the 87.5 than the 90, but
I bet the wire colors are all the same. The engine hardware certainly
is the same. I believe the ECU's might be slightly different, however,
but will still work. I think that because of some random swapping in
and out of my 90Q of 87.5 electronics.

That is true *except* that the 87.5 tranny has larger diameter output
flanges than the 85-87 version. Hence, different inner cv joints.
However, those flanges can easily be removed and swapped with the more
readily available early style. I did it backwards, swapped the later
ones onto an '86 tranny when putting it into my decrepit, unregistered 87.5.
On second (third?) reading I realize what I quoted says it's the same as
the 80/90 (type 89), not the earlier type 85. That's probably correct.
So basically, if you have the red 85-87 type 85 manual *and* the
beigey-grey 88-92 type 89 manual, you should have it covered. If
something isn't in one, it should be in the other.
Good luck!
