"Hyd. fluid seems normal; no drippy drip on my left foot. Car now has about
200k mi.; bomb, clutch master, pump, hoses, rebuilt rack have all been done
at various times since I've had it @118k mi. I'd guess the bomb/m.c. are
about 5 yrs old; rack & pump about 3 yrs old. I'd also guess that the
bomb/m.c. might near the end of their lifespan?" Your words.
What, pray tell, do the rack, hoses, pump, and bomb have to do with your
question? What you have is a problem in the clutch hydraulic system. You
have either a bad cylinder (master or slave) or a porous hose (or maybe a
cracked hard line, but not likely) and you're pulling air into the system.
If there's a brake/clutch fluid loss, it's unlikely you'd notice it from day
to day at this level of failure. Hydraulic boost system fluid has NOTHING
to do with what's going on, so it'll remain the same level even if the
clutch system fails completely.
HTH, John
