4Kq clicking while cranking

Hi folks. A little problem has been bothering me recently. Since I had the
starter rebuilt on my '87 4000q I've heard a click with what seems like
every revolution of the crankshaft when I crank the engine. The clicking
goes away when the engine lights (and I stop cranking the starter). I know
the flywheel has a couple munged teeth; could that be the cause, or could
the starter need a shim somewhere?
