97 A4 cd changer problems

Hi folks,
     A friend of mine has a new to him '97 A4. He's having a problem with
the CD changer ejecting the 6 disc cassette. It simply won't. Slide the
door, push the little eject button, and nothin'. The head is reporting
CD00err. If anyone has any clues on this it would be greatly appreciated.
