Icy driving, quattro or not

Hi,
There is no more helpless feeling than to feel you and your trusty steed
slowly slipping away even after applying all the stopping methods at your
disposal. OTOH, being stuck without being able to move on ice is just as
helpless. I got off I40 during an ice storm in Amarillo, Texas, once, to
get a cup of coffee. I was towing a small trailer but managed to stop at
the Stop sign at the bottom of the off ramp. But, I couldn't move; a
friendly cowboy in a pickup hooked a rope to my front tie down and pulled me
through and back onto I40. It happened during a serious ice storm on I40 in
March 1993, and I40 looked like a war zone with spun out cars, trucks, 18
wheelers, anything that moved. Talk about puckered driving.
If you don't like the feeling of the world's slickest skid pad, stay off the
ice or at least drive prudently. I know; it never happens to me. Chains
anyone?
Cheers!
Jim Jordan
