what is a shrapnel knob?

Eric,

The name was given by Paul Timmerman, the (former?) list member who came up 
with the idea.  For rather obvious reasons as indicated by Brett there is a 
chance that the engine and/or the turbo might become shrapnel should the 
mod be used inappropriately.

I ran an '89 200tq with the shrapnel knob coupled with the resistor/zener 
mod for better than 60K miles with no apparent ill effect (maximum of 18 
psig of boost).  I then, when I bought my urS6, sold it to another list 
member who ran it for a lot more miles.  At last report the car was still 
in use and, apparently, running quite well.  AFAIK, it still is.  From this 
one datum I would presume that the "knob's" hazards are not as great as 
some would have one believe.
