One small technicality makes this swap illegal in CA. The T89 cars were
introduced starting M.Y. 1988, therefore putting in a 1987 engine in one is
"back dating". Doubt if the smog nazis could tell the difference
though. If you're outside of CA, you're fortunate (as far as mods go).
