Bingo. I stopped on the way home and purchased an excellent sunpro/actron automotive multimeter. The readings are much more in the range of what I expected. I was able to set the mixture to where it should be.
Unfortunately after doing this, the idle is still poor, with a pronounced missing at idle. I re-verified good spark at each cylinder, then pulled the injectors.
I test ran the injectors and noted that each one starts spraying at a slightly different point when I lift the metering plate (they all have a fairly good pattern though). So, current diagnosis is that I have malfunctioning injectors, which is allowing some of the cylinders to run lean, and some to run rich.
Picking up a new set of injectors on the way home from work this evening, so hopefully I'll have an answer tonight.
Thanks!
