a search on VWVortex gives the easy method:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=119087

quoting: "Push your lightswitch knob in, then turn itabout 1/4"-3/8" to the
right, this will pull the tabs in on the back ofthe switch, then pull on the
knob..the entire switch should slide out.Once you have the switch out
disconnect the harness on the back of theswitch, once you do this look on the inside
the back of thelightswitch, you'll see a bunch of copper pins. Each pin has
adesignation above it, each obviously for a different function. Look forthe pin
labled "TFL", this is the one for your daytime running lights.Once you've
located this pin place a small piece of electrical tape onit, one that will fold
over the front of the pin...so if you put thetape on the bottom half you'll be
able to fold it over the tophalf...once you see it you'll know what I mean...
It's tight in therethough, some tweezers or something thin will help. You want
to makesure that you have a tiny bit of overlap on the sides of the pin too,to
completely wrap around the pin...this way there's less chance of anykind of
short, even though it's unlikely. Make sense?"
