The dreaded type-44 door locks

First, thanks to all who replied to my 5kcstq headlights question--
I'm definitely considering the E-code lights, but haven't driven the car
enough at night for it to be
an issue (yet)... it's on my wish list.
So far so good, though. I've replaced the window regulators on both
sides, and I've also been
trying to sort out the locking problem.
The locks are essentially working, with the exception of the driver's
side door. Press down the
lock post on the driver- or passenger-side door, and all the other doors
lock. Lift up on the lock
post, and they all unlock, except for the driver's side door. The post
goes back up, but the inside
and outside handles act as if the door were still locked-- and,
strangely, the inside handle causes
the lock actuator to lower the posts on all the doors back to the
"locked" position. Even if I hold
up the post while pulling the latch, the door will not open.
At that point, the only way to get the driver's side door open is to pop
the catch in the door jamb
with a long screwdriver. Do I need a new actuator?
Anybody BTDT, suggestions?
Thanks mucho!
-Barry
