I think the recomendation would be to always work from the bottom, 
whether feeding a wire through the drain lines, or compressed air. 
Although I suspect the air is less likely to disconnect it, a good clog 
could mean 100 psi in the hose "trying" to pop it off.  In a place you 
can't get to...

For testing, just run some water in from the top, although, I guess, if 
the hose is off that would be messy.
