Exhaust manifold interchange ? (non-turbo)

Audi realised quite early on that they had a manifold cracking problem.

E.g., on the Type 44, if you check ETKA then it seems the only option is a two-part.  But as
far as I've been able to determine, the two-part was never fitted by the factory.

Lots of people have cast around looking for the problem.  Dialynx in the UK, for instance,
produced a pattern manifold using different metallurgy - more ductile and less brittle.  But -
in the end - a VICIOUS stud-puller on MB and MC engines.

I'm convinced - and with advancing years yet more convinced - that the key to the whole issue
is the right-hand engine mount.
