I finally got my A4 back on the road. Did my very first tb, wp, pulleys, seals. Also changed plugs, Mann air and oil filters and 5-30w semi-syn oil. Runs better than when I got it.
Took me all of oh about 4 weeks from start to finish mainly due to my bad planning and ineptitude. But it was worth it. And I learned a heck of a lot. Had a friend help me out whenever I got stuck like pulling of the bumper, or when I messed up the timing marks and completely screwed up where the crank and cam marks should have been. Overall, the job isn't as bad as I thought it would have been. Slow and steady gets you there, although in my case, I didn't break any world records. Got plenty of scratches an aching back, bruised knees but I feel I'm now truly a quattro head.
Sorry to keep going on and on here folks but although it might not seem such a big deal for some of you "engine transplant here, turbo swap their with your eyes closed" people, for me this was a very big deal which I could not have done without YOU guys.
BTW, when I called the local garage for an estimate just for the tb/wp/seals, guy quoted me $1700. I spent close to $400 on all the parts, fluids, tools etc and the tools I get to keep.
Many thanks to all who provided advice and encouragement.
