Electrolysis in cooling systems

Seems to me there is an easy fix for this. I'm a sailer on weekends, and we battle this nemesis all the time. How to fix? Cathodic protection! There are two broad methods of Cathodic Protection
1. Galvanic or sacrificial anode System.

2. Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) System.

#1 is cheap and easy but you have to replace the anodes every so often, #2 is more expensive but has no maintenance associated with it. Maybe it is time for car enthusiasts to take some notes from boaters?

Electrolysis is an increasing problem, particularly in alloy engines.
Bad grounds on electrical components is usually the cause. The higher
the current draw of the offending component the more severe the
errosion. (A bad starter ground can eat your radiator very quickly, as
well as block and cyl. head surfaces. Try these links for a good report
on the problem.
