Yeah, welcome to Colorado, "The Broken Windshield State."
My impression is that stock Audi glass is decent, way better than
cheapo aftermarket glass anyway. My 90 Q had a couple of good stars in
it that never spread, as does my 944. The 944 glass seems a little ticker
but not a great deal. The aftermarket glass in my van cracked 2/3 the
way across after a small rock strike, and I even had it filled at a glass
shop. Generally in Colorado you replace your windshield once it's cracked
right in front of your eyes, and with aftermarket glass you are lucky if
you make it two years before you replace it again.
Audi's probably show more glass damage, as they are the weapon of choice
for winter driving and for sand we use pea-sized granite chunks. My 90Q
was a Colorado car all it's life and the front end was badly sandblasted,
the headlights replaced, windshield pitted and cracked, but hey that's
what it's for.
