Hi Alex,
I have the same task to perform on my own recently purchased Audi. I'd
suggest starting with checking the accelerator actuator diaphragm for leaks
and the tubing from the actuator to the vacuum pump. Make sure that neither
of the release valves on the clutch or brake pedal are faulty as the pump
will never achieve a vacuum if these are open. Then check the basic
connections on the the column switches, control unit and vacuum pump. Also
make sure that you are getting a valid speed pulse from the speedometer to
the control unit and possible also the ignition pulse from the ECU (or hall
sensor), but I'm not so sure about that one. The cruise control will only
function above about 35mph so make sure you're doing at least the minimum
speed. If all of this checks out then you may have a faulty control unit or
vacuum pump.
Cheers, Mike.
