1985 4kq alternator question

When my 4kq alternator went out, the brushes had cut
deep grooves in the commutator, so I didn't even try
to rebuild it. You can see this without taking
anything apart, so I just got one from the junkyard
with good brushes + commutator, and it worked as long
as I had the car.
