I found that the mating surfaces were not flat. I posted a fix a few years
ago, but don't know if they made it to the archives..
Wet sand the mating halves with 220, then 400 grit wet, on a plate of glass.
The aluminum half took me 15 min, and the iron side took 20+ minutes at
least. Both halves were noticably low in the middle, to the point where the
o-ring couldn't take up the slack. I buttoned it back up and that was the
end of that foolishness.
It won't show to the naked eye, until you take the first pass over the
sandpaper, then it jumps right out at you. It all depends what your time is
worth and if you want to see the job done right...
Good luck.. and make sure you get it good and clean before reassembly.
