For me, it was the windshield defroster that did it. I happen to have a
"rose" (the said broken glass stayed put without actually breaking away
to form "bullseye") right around where the defroster's hot air would hit.
One winter, the crack suddenly appeared when the outside is too cold and
the defroster is at full power, originating from the rose. It cracked
horizontally across the windshield, following the defroster air line -- so
the whole crack had the "eyebrows" look to it.
