Oh yes. You're describing my exact problem, hopefully to be solved tomorrow
by gutting the cat.

It started running quietly (exhaust was rusty, no gas out means no noise)
and rattling underneath the car (not so quietly) on acceleration. Then
acceleration became really slow.
Last week it refused to go above 80 km/h and when I started it to drive
home from the train station last Sunday it accelerated like your average
Zimmer frame user. It died soon and I had lots of trouble getting it
started again, but when it ran it wouldn't go over 60 km/h.
Naturally it was raining/snowing/hailing really badly when it died and I
had to push it off the road.

Same again when my other car, indicating that there was some 7 litres of
fuel left, died on me. Seems the gauge is really inaccurate. Another
rain/snow/hailstorm, another opportunity to get REALLY wet and cold. After
a fillup, it started fine...

Maybe I need an 'appliance' instead of three cars.

Regards, Tom
