Ok, been a while since I came to the lists with a request like this, but I'm sorta stumped and really would like to get some ideas.
The last few track events 80tq has been running really well for the most part, but one problem has been cropping up causing some frustration:
- I can't replicate it on the street, only really hard track driving reveals it.
-After about 3 or 4 really hard laps a high RPM cutout will appear at certain times, usually a certain turn or stretch of the track, the motor won't want to rev past 5k rpm or so, short shifting to the next gear alleviates the condition until the next time it crops up.
-When doing so fuel mixtures appear to be relatively stable and no pinging or knocking can be heard.
-It also gets worse the higher the boost is, it really begins getting noticeable around 15psi boost. At 16-17psi its livable, past 18-20psi it really becomes a problem so that after the first few laps the car isn't too driveable.
-Recently at Thunderhill it never did it in the rain, only in the dry, but again, I couldn't drive _that_ hard in the rain. At Laguna last weekend it didn't do it much on sat (about 50 degrees), but did it more on Sun which was in the 70's. Coolant temps were slightly higher on Sun than on Sat, generally coolant temps never are past the 50% mark.
-Also, correleated to this is "burps" from the expansion tank. At first I thought that the 95% water mixture was just boiling over, but it still does it with 50/50 in the cooling system.
-Also, I've gotten a few little dew drops of oil in the expansion tank.
-Again, I can never replicate this on the street because, well, lets face it, I might end up in a penetentary if I drove anywhere near what I do at the track.
The car is fast, at Laguna I was hitting 110 at the end of turn 1 with only 16psi boost, but this kinda puts a crimp in the acceleration party, plus prevents me from running 20+psi which is where I'd really like to be. I have a new flowed and tricked 2.3 10v that I'll be putting in a month or two from now, but I really want to get to the bottom of this. I'll also be testing the new direct fire stage II 034efi system soon, and wanted to get to the bottom of it before going into testing.
I have my own whole theory but I'd like to not share it as to not contaminate the responses, I'd love to hear what some of you think it is, this isn't some "trick" or "contest", I'm not exactly sure if my conclusion is valid, so hopefully your responses will confirm or redirect mine.
Any responses are appreciated (well, unless they're really stupid), let me know if anyone wants more clues or info about it.
Thanks,
Javad Shadzi
