Greetings Audinauts,
The advanced stages of "quattrosis accumulatus" are setting in 'round downt=
own Phoenix. While my 5ktq project moves along slowly, my roommate Tom has =
acquired another Coupe GT. He already has a Tornado Red '86... now also a g=
raphite over tan '84, purchased for $300, straight, rust free, loud rod kno=
ck (hence the price).
Anyway, we have spent a few nights in the garage mulling over which car sho=
uld receive the turbo conversion. Both have their flaws, but at $300 apiece=
, whatcha expect?
I see many detail differences... trying to understand which car is truly mo=
re suitable from a design standpoint. I like the black one better ('84) whi=
le Tom leans toward the '86.
I figure the four square DOT lights are easier to upgrade for sufficient li=
ghting, also the 4x100 wheels of the '84 make for easier upgrade as well.
The quirks:
RED CAR-
cracked windshield, slight crunch on upshift in some gears, nearly inoperab=
le digital dash. OTOH, new TB/WP, and is cosmetically nicer than the '84 bu=
t not by much.
BLK CAR:
Paint not great, needs tires now, needs bottom end. OTOH, good glass, good =
tranny, and functioning analog gauges.
I say keep driving the red one to work while the black one gets a turbo mot=
or and possibly the bumpers/trim from the '86 as a style update. Tom seems =
to like the red car as the swap candidate. Opinions welcome...
