Iain, Bilstien struts do have a large shaft, but its not a solid steel core, the actual valving is located inside the hollow shaft, its a common misconception that Bilsteins are are really strong becuase of the huge shaft, but its kindof an optical illusion. Also, the Bilst. use an internal bump stop so no external bump stop is needed.
