yup, agreed, will stop insert rusting solid into housing if salt and/or
water find there way in there

there was talk about a breather hole in some shocks which can suck in
the liquid and destroy the insert...
don't remember details, but if it has a hole of any sort, I would be
wary of adding liquid to the strut housing...

someone else will know more...
