87.5 dying slowly help

Check your battery for excessive corrosion. Right behind and below it is
where the main wiring harness ducks into the cabin.
I had a broken battery post on my NG CGT and didn't figure this out until
my car started to exhibit somewhat similar behavior. I went around and
around thinking ignition and finally gave up and took it to a dealer.
They just happened to stumble on this when they were taking the glove box
out to get at the ecu. Fortunately they had the car idling and when they
moved stuff around, the engine died. They found that the wiring harness
was badly eaten up by the battery acid. Some poor guy spent several
hours upside down under the dash rewiring stuff. A small bonus to this
was that my car came back with every dash illumination bulb working since
they tested everything to make sure of Job 1. ;-)
That was $400 I did not sweat over, literally or figuratively. Many
thanks to Central VW/Audi in Dallas.
