pressure/damper

Vehicle is a 1990 200TQA. Does anyone know which direction the small internal damper hose
that fits in the joint of the pressure line from the pump to accumulator goes.  The original I am
replacing has a line in each half of the line, part in the metal upper portion, and part in the lower
flex line.  The replacement has one long end and one short end, and no one at the dealer could
remember or find how this supecession is supposed to be installed.  Does it even matter?
