Hello from Pike¹s Peak country! I live in the NW side of Colorado Springs
about 15 miles from the base of the Mountain. The annual Hill Climb is a
unique, awesome race, all right! I driven up the mountain a few times, but
at a more leisurely pace, to be sure. About 3 summers ago, Audi of America
had a fun driver¹s ed event out here at Pike¹s Peak Int¹l Raceway,
including riding along in an A8 playing tag with other professional drivers
in other Audi¹s around the course, just under 100mph! Some of us from the
event went up Pike¹s Peak one afternoon that July, from 90 degrees in the
valley to snow squalls on top.
The video is something to watch. I second the urge that you download this
and watch it. I¹d like to see an on-board camera record the race of a
vehicle that did not quite make one of the turns or switchbacks. Yes, there
have been drivers to go off the course, which can be very career-limiting,
if you ³catch the drift.²
By the way, at the end of the film, it reads the altitude is 4500 meters.
Must have been a french calculator they used; it is ³only² 4301 m in
altitude.
Regards,
Ben
