Advice Needed - 1992 100 CSQ

Ok folks, need some advice.

Was surfing cars.com a couple nights ago and came across this item:

1992 100 CSQ Auto with 129k miles.  Fair condition $2.5K.  Needs work.

Called the owner and talked with him.  Asked what was wrong.  Said he thinks
the transmission is giving him a problem.  I asked specifics and he said
that the car runs fine but when coming to a stop or slowing down, the car
will jerk-jerk-jerk and stall.  Says gets worse as you drive it.  Asked if
he has had it seen by a mechanic.  Says that he took to a mechanic but the
guy didn't have much knowledge of Audi.  He's decided to sell since he
bought a Volvo and doesn't want to deal with this problem.

Haven't personally seen the car but I was wondering if anyone has had
simliar problems.  Easy or cheap fix?  Blown transmission?  I know it's hard
for you guys and gals to tell with what little info I have but any opinions
are appreciated.  I'd like to go see it.  It's located in Salisbury, MD
about 120 miles from Fairfax VA.  Wondering if it's even worth the trip.
