John,
I had been chasing an annoying problem with '84 4kq I had sold to my
neighbor friend. Seems the engine would start running poorly. Seemed
weather related, as acted up in heavy rain - eep puddles, and at last
in the deep snow. I had already been through the F.I. system pretty
well, replacing the F.I. thermo sender which causes the same problem.
I hastily went through several basics and found the culprit - O2
sensor. Just disconnected it for now, so friend could get to work.
The sensor and wires look great, but it was definately throwing the
mixture off where the car wouldn't run right - backfiring, jerking, not
revving above 2500RPM.
Car has been starting and running just fine with O2 sensor disconnected
until we can replace it. Mixture is set on the rich sid for now.
Thepartsconnection occasionally has these for a great price.

[Has anyone had an 3 wire o2 sensor short out
internally? Mine today stopped working and my car went
lean to the point not able to sustain power. I hooked
up my dmm and it was showing 5.5 volts. I checked my
grounds and it was still high. I then disconnected the
heater element and it went down to .45 I don't know
what happened but I obviously need a new one. Does
anyone know where to get the Bosch generic 3 wire at
the best deal?
Thanks
John]
