passing lane driving

I make the 2 hour commute from San Diego to LA (girlfriend resides) via the
route 5.  I make the trip both ways about 2-3 times a week and its amazing to
me that so many people are obsessed with driving in the passing lane.  I
can't count the number of times I have had to pass people by merging right,
when theres plenty of room in the 4 non passing lanes for comfortable
cruising.  Honestly there has been moments in the route 5 traffic when 15 or
so vehicles are lined up in the passing lane and 2 of the 4 non passing lanes
are open. Driving 65mph in the passing lane doesn't get you there any faster
than driving 65mph in the other lanes, it just irritates the ones driving 70+
trying to pass safetly.
