Just thought I should jot down a few notes that I have from my testing
on my 87 5k turbo
I finally got the beast to run today, but only by sheer luck
I forced the cold injector with 12 volts straight from the fuse block. I
did this because the test I did on the injector showed only a 2 second
pulse while cranking the engine. With an ambient temp of aprox -30, it
should have been longer. The car started up, and ran nicely at 1200rpm.
The thing I never noticed is that the large (3/8" going to diff lockup
and the a/c, I believe) vacuum line off the back of the intake was still
disconnected. (I removed it to gain access to the cold start injector to
put the wires on it.
So, after I shut it down, I hooked up the hose, and it wouldn't start.
I checked some things, and then unhooked the hose again. It started up
again.(but I still need to use the cold start injector to get it to
start.
With it running, ui went and plugged the nipple on the intake with my
finger, the engine died. Restarted and hooked up the vacuum line, same
thing.dead
Then the car had been running for some time, and it came up to
temperature, but instead of the idle dropping, it took off. Up to 3500
or so.
When I called the dealer to ask about it, the first thing I was asked
was if the temp gage worked on the dash? Mine didn't, so he thought
that it would be the sending unit (4 pin switch).
Does this sound right to anyone? He said that the other pins were for
the fuel injection, but I'm not sure what part.
The other thing that I noticed is that the double relay under the dash,
p/n 444 907 393 (for the idle stabilizer system, I think). I notice
that when the engine is cranking, the relays chatter. Is that normal,
or could that be another problem?
The bottom line is that the car does start. But it dies when put in
gear with the brake applied. Could be because of the vacuum line
unhooked. That is still better than it was last week.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Later

Just forgot to add in the last email, and sorry for listing twice.
I did try to unhook the idle stabilizer valve, and also pinched the hose
off, but it made no difference to the speed.
The only other thing that I'm missing is the idle jet. Not sure of
correct term (Located above the butterfly in the throttle body). My car
has none, and right now it is just plugged to avoid extra air ingress.
That is all I think for now
Thanks again
