re. high speed idle and more and more

Well I think that is your problem - you need that idle screw in place
with good O-ring.  I don't see how you can troubleshoot anything else
without it.  I suspect you are getting too much air to start.

Must be difficult working at -30.

Oh, multi-function temp sender could be a contributor, but the cooling
guage function is separate from the ECU function.  Did you pull any
codes from the ECU?

[Just forgot to add in the last email, and sorry for listing twice.
I did try to unhook the idle stabilizer valve, and also pinched the hose
off, but it made no difference to the speed.
The only other thing that I'm missing is the idle jet.  Not sure of
correct term (Located above the butterfly in the throttle body).  My car
has none, and right now it is just plugged to avoid extra air ingress.
 That is all I think for now
