Update on the faux fog lamp assemblies...
The lenses that I'm working with are a bit worn, but after I pull the
masters from the first set of molds, I'll be able to resurface them and
restore them to "new" condition.
A question for those with these installed on their vehicle:
Travis wasn't able to get me a set of pics of the "hole" where these are
installed, and I need a little more info about how these fit into their
socket in the bumper.
Each unit has a set of tabs on the back; one small tab to the outboard end
of the unit, and a pair of sort of complicated-looking tabs on the inboard
side where the unit sets up against the turn signal unit.
I want to beef the tabs up, as the factory tabs are not quite to my liking.
But I can't do this without knowing exactly how much room there is around
and behind the mounting points for the tabs.
For the smaller, outboard tab, I need to know if there's room to make the
tab thicker. Is there a specific-sized slot, or does the tab simply fit
onto or behind a metal flange that has some space behind it?
For the other pair of tabs, I understand that there's a set of metal (?)
tabs (or "fingers") that fit between the tabs and sort of spring outward a
bit to hold the tabs in place. Then the turn signal unit covers and secures
the "fog lamp" unit.
I need to know if there's room on the "outside" of these tabs to make them
thicker, and I need to know if there's anything that fits into the empty
space of these tabs where they are attached to the back plate of the unit.
If there's not, I can fill it in during mastering and increase the strength
of the tabs.
If anyone has pictures of the hole where the units mount, they would be
invaluable in helping me to decide how to proceed from this point.
When I've got the first two sets of the units ready, I'll give one set to
Travis, and I can send the other to... Dan or Brett? No charge, as I really
need someone in the know to critique the units for me.
Thanks for the help. BTW, thank you for all of the help with my rear fog
lamp questions, too.
