Team Doorhandle re-awakens

My mother's '97 A4Q just lost the ability to open the front
passenger door from the insside. The handle doesn't catch on
anything at all.

Being the good son I am, I may offer to fix it for her if it
is not going to be a nightmare. Anyone BTDT? How do I remove
the door panel from this car, and any tips on the usual culprits
inside once I do?
